During our FREE respite night, both special needs children and their siblings can enjoy a variety of fun activities in a safe environment. The evening begins at 6 p.m. every third Friday of the month and ends at 9 p.m. During those three hours, the children are assigned to a buddy for the evening who plays with and looks out for them. The one-on-one attention we provide is designed so that each child can participate in activities that best suit their needs and preferences. Reservations ARE required to attend this event so that the appropriate amount of volunteers may be gathered to properly assist your children. Over the course of the evening, we have free time during which we open four rooms. The nursery, our special On Eagles Wings room upstairs where the kids can enjoy violence-free video games, the gym and the playground (weather permitting). During this time, the children stay with their buddies and are only able to switch rooms with their assistance. After free time, we offer an optional arts and crafts time, followed by snack. Snack is always gluten-free and usually consists of tortilla chips and apple juice. When a "special snack" is being offered, parents are warned ahead of time to make sure no allergy problems arise. We wrap up the evening with a movie to help the children wind down after the excitement of the evening. On Eagles Wings is a place specifically designed for special needs children. We provide a fun and safe environment filled with loving volunteers who are specially trained to work with your children. If you are interested in participating in On Eagles Wings, please fill out the application and bring it with you the first time you visit us. Also, please contact Gabby Brigance, before attending. She will be able to answer any questions you have and can ensure that your child will have a buddy waiting for them the first time they walk through the door. |
